Health services Assessment Tool for Schools (HATS) Working Group
ASHA is a proud member of the working group convened by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to revise the Health services Assessment Tool for Schools (HATS). The Academy developed the HATS over a decade ago to help school districts across the country improve their school health services through examination of health service quality and comprehensiveness, infrastructure, and policies/protocols. The HATS has been used by school districts across the US to identify gaps and strengths and enhance provision of school health services, but much has changed over the past ten years! Funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides an opportunity for the AAP to engage in a thoughtful and timely review and expansion of the HATS to ensure availability of tools that address the needs and issues most salient to school health and student needs today and going forward.
